2017: A Year in Review

It is a truth universally acknowledged that January is perhaps the worst month of the year; Christmas is over, staying in and eating chocolate on the sofa in your pyjamas is replaced by detoxing and you have to venture out of your festive hibernation into the real world to go back to work.

And so, in honour of this month, and the year the has passed, I decided to do a little round up of some of my highlights of 2017.

Last year, the post-festive blues weren’t anywhere to be seen, as 2017 was kicked off in a rather spectacular style. After spending the most magical Christmas in New York, eating our way around the city, Elliot and I arrived back and moved straight into our first home!

January concluded with a cosy trip to Center Parcs, complete with all the bike rides, marshmallow toasting and family fun we could muster!

In April Elliot turned 30 and, to celebrate, I took him to Las Vegas. We gambled our way along the strip, relaxed in the baking sun and I got to go on my first ever helicopter trip to the Grand Canyon, which was just gorgeous!

June saw us take our annual family trip to Portugal. We spent the week vegetating in the sun, moving only to go and sample the delicious food and drink that the region has to offer (I’m still not over that lobster rice!)

In July, Elliot and I took a spontaneous and fleeting trip to Barcelona. We stayed in an absolutely gorgeous hotel, got lost in the winding alleys of the gothic quarter (and ate some seriously good food!)

August ended the summer in a spectacular fashion, with us take a seriously glam trip to Monaco for a weekend full of sunshine, saltwater and sunset lit tasting menus.

November witnessed my most anticipated trip of the year. No matter where I go in the world, Disney World will always have my heart. We spent two weeks in the Grand Floridian hotel, making the most of all that Disney World had to offer and witnessing the Magic Kingdom change out of it’s halloween attire to transform into a Christmassy winter wonderland (complete with snow!)

It was my birthday whilst we were in Disney, but on my return I went out to celebrate with all of my girl friends. We headed to Restaurant Ours for an absolutely fabulous evening. I adored everything – from the buzz of the restaurant, to the tapas style food and *that* flower wall! One of my biggest weaknesses is tiki bars, so it was only right that we finished the evening by dancing the night away in Kona Kai, a super kitsch local tiki bar.

In November my lovely Mum turned 60, and in December she held a big party with all of the ladies in her life to celebrate. The party was held at Reads Restaurant and Rooms, and was just amazing!

Mid December saw Elliot and I welcome a new member of the family. We picked up Rupert, our Ragdoll kitten and its fair to say we’re absolutely in love!

Coming full circle, we finished our first year in our first home by hosting our first Christmas. My lovely Mum and Dad came to stay and we had the most wonderfully chilled out time, topped off by a boxing day stroll along the Thames to a local pub.

Looking back at all of the wonderful things that have happened in 2017 makes me realise what a truly fabulous year it was, packed full of loved ones and new adventures! Lets see what you’ve got in store for me 2018!

Love, Sophia x
