Valentines day may have been and gone, but love is still in the air at the Peggy Porschen Parlour in Belgravia. After a week of seeing my Instagram feed awash with the picture perfect pink shopfront and the matching cupcakes, all of the same rose hue, I insisted on making the journey to sample some of the delights for myself, and test if they really were as good as they looked.
Located on Ebury Street in Belgravia the parlour is small but perfectly formed, with several tables dotted about inside and an overflow of little pink tables and chairs popped on the patio that wraps around the shop. Thankfully the Saturday evening that we chose to visit, London decided to show its first signs of Spring, and we happily pitched up in the most perfect of people watching spots outside.
Interested to get a true taste of Peggy’s wares, we ordered the signature strawberry and champagne cupcake, topped with an individual wafer rose, a slice of strawberry and champagne layer cake, complete with a little champagne truffle and a pot of earl grey tea and a latte to accompany.
The cakes themselves were certainly not a case of style over substance. The layer cake had a deliciously moist sponge with the perfect amount of buttercream covering and jam filling, while the cupcake was delightful, with a surprise pool of strawberry jam filling its centre.
Peggy Porschen is simply an ideal spot to pitch up after a sunny day’s shopping in nearby Chelsea, nab yourself a table outside and a picture perfect cupcake and watch the world go by.
